Riding a Motorcycle in Kuwait

Kuwait is a rewarding place to ride: long coastal roads, open desert highways and a friendly biker community. This guide covers what every rider in Kuwait should know.

The riding season

The best months are from October to April, when days are mild and nights are cool. From May to September daytime temperatures often pass 40°C and can exceed 50°C at the peak of summer, so summer rides move to early morning or after sunset. Winter evenings can turn cold on long rides, as the club found on its December Friday ride to Rahhal.

Licence basics

• You need a Kuwaiti motorcycle driving licence to ride on public roads. The minimum age is 18.
• The licence is issued by the General Traffic Department of the Ministry of Interior after the required tests.
• Requirements for expatriates can change. Check the current rules with the Ministry of Interior before you apply.

The traffic law

Kuwait’s updated traffic law came into force in April 2025 with heavier penalties, including fines of up to KD 150 for reckless driving or racing. Ride within the limits and keep your documents with you.

Routes the club rides

• Gulf Road: the coastal road through the city, past Kuwait Towers.
• The south: longer rides towards Rahhal and the south of Kuwait.
• Salmiya to Sabhan: the ride the club took to the Ministry of Defence camp.
• City rides: midweek evening rides to restaurants, such as the gathering in Mangaf.
